7 Best Broken Lizard Movies Ranked

Here You will find all 7 Broken Lizard movies ranked. Broken Lizard is a comedy writing, directing, and acting troupe that has been entertaining audiences since the mid-1990s. Composed of members Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, the group first gained prominence with their debut feature film “Puddle Cruiser” in 1996. They followed this up with the cult classic “Super Troopers” in 2001, which established their signature style of irreverent humor and absurd scenarios.

Since then, they have continued to create a series of beloved comedies that showcase their unique brand of comedy. Known for their strong chemistry and commitment to making each other laugh, Broken Lizard remains a beloved fixture in the world of comedy. With their newest release coming out in April 2023, they now have 7 total feature films all working together and this is the list from the worst to the best.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Quasi

#07 | Quasi (2023)

Quasi is the lowest-rated film on the list of the best Broken Lizard films ranked and not just because the other six are better. This is not a good film and not worth the time. Broken Lizard is amazing and super talented, but this was not it. It was boring, not funny, nothing special added to the medieval genre or classic story and really low production value (which isn’t automatically a bad thing but it is here). It was fun to see all the guys back together after a while but that was about it.

Quasi takes place in medieval times following a hapless hunchback who yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the king of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other. A raunchy comedic take of the classic The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, it both hits on the original and adds unique story elements.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Slammin' Salmon

#06 | The Slammin’ Salmon (2009)

To be fair, The Slammin’ Salmon was a good idea and they worked hard to put on a good show even though the economics of this looked like they needed to make it on a low budget to make it work. It is very much like Waiting, a staff of different personalities work in a restaurant. It is just kind of funny. Broken Lizard fans will probably appreciate this exists, but it is pretty forgettable and located in a genre that has much better options.

The Slammin’ Salmon takes place in a Miami restaurant owned by a former heavyweight boxing champ who now spends his days as a tyrannical boss. To pay off a debt, he forces his waitstaff to compete in a sales contest with the winner receiving a $10,000 cash prize. The film’s wacky cast of characters and over-the-top antics make for an entertaining ride.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Club Dread

#05 | Club Dread (2004)

Club Dread lands at the number five spot of the Broken Lizard films because it was kind of weird and not one that is going to please everyone. That said, it is a unique film that delivered something special and a high level. This was the troupe’s take on the horror genre, delivering a horror comedy. It was kind of funny and kind of tense/scary but a mix of both that just didn’t feel right. Not at all a bad movie, if you really like Shaun of the Dead or other horror comedies, give this one a shot.

In Club Dread, the Broken Lizard crew trades in their police uniforms for resort wear as they play staff members on a tropical island resort. When a series of grisly murders occur on the island, the staff must work together to uncover the killer’s identity before it’s too late. Combining elements of a slasher film with their signature humor, Club Dread delivers a fun and suspenseful experience.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Puddle Cruiser

#04 | Puddle Cruiser

Puddle Cruiser lands right in the middle of the best Broken Lizard films list because it is original and has such fresh humor, but still isn’t quite there yet. This was their first feature film. You see the original sparks of Super Troopers, but they still had to develop in their career a little further to bring out the high-level stuff they delivered.

“Puddle Cruiser” follows a group of college friends who navigate love, friendship, and the ups and downs of campus life. When one of the guys falls for a girl who works at the university’s snack bar, he must navigate the rocky waters of their budding romance while also dealing with the antics of his goofy friends. Filled with offbeat humor and relatable characters.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Super Troopers 2

#03 | Super Troopers 2 (2018)

Super Troopers 2 fits right into the number 3 spot on this list. It has laughs and brings mostly everyone back in a fun way, but it was just fine. It could have been better, and not just because it had huge shoes to fill with the level of the first one. They did some call backs, but there was some original stuff so not too lazy. Still absolutely watchable for fans of Broken Lizard films.

In Super Troopers 2, the beloved Vermont state troopers are back and find themselves reassigned to a Canadian border town after a border dispute arises. The town is full of quirky characters, including a group of Mounties who don’t take kindly to their new American counterparts. As they investigate a smuggling ring, the troopers must navigate cultural differences, language barriers, and their own ineptitude. The film delivers the same irreverent humor and absurdity as the first installment.

Best Broken Lizard Films - Beerfest

#02 | Beerfest (2006)

Beerfest takes the second spot on the list of all the Broken Lizard films ranked because it is a pretty solid comedy and premise. If you knew nothing about these guys, you could watch it, have a few laughs, and feel good about the decision you just made. It is certainly a good edition to their brand. It is nowhere near their cult classic Super Troopers, but definitely a thumbs up.

In Beerfest, a group of American friends stumble upon a top-secret underground beer drinking competition in Germany. Naturally, they decide to form a team and compete against the reigning champions. Along the way, they must overcome obstacles and their own personal demons in order to chug their way to victory. Filled with absurd humor, outrageous characters, and enough beer to fill a swimming pool.

#01 | Super Troopers (2001)

Super Troopers takes the top spot on the list of the best Broken Lizard movies because it is absolutely hilarious and easily one of the great comedies in the history of cinema. This movie put them on the map for a reason.

Super Troopers follows a group of Vermont state troopers who spend their days pulling pranks and slacking off until they stumble upon a drug smuggling ring operating in their area. As they investigate, the troopers find themselves at odds with the local police department and must race against time to uncover the truth before it’s too late.
